Saturday, 7th June 2014, at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, Ovil McKenzie (23-12, 12KOs) became the British and European Commonwealth cruiserweight champion with a sensational second-round stoppage of Jon-Lewis Dickinson.

Veteran McKenzie, 34, nicknamed the Upsetter, took Dickinson’s British strap with a devastating left hook and right cross that put the local down. He got back to his feet but was unsteady and the referee waved it off.

“Hopefully this will change things for me. The plan was simple and that was to go in there and do the business – do the things I do in the gym in the ring and I managed to do it.

“I need to go abroad, anywhere in the world, and come back with a world title for Britain. I want to show my appreciation to Britain for letting me in this country and helping me to fulfil my career, and my dreams.”

Asked about a possible fight with WBO champion Marco Huck, McKenzie added:

“That’s the one. I’m the Upsetter. I’ve been doing a lot of upsetting in England but now I want go abroad and do some upsetting to bring a belt back to the UK.”
